NOTE: The 12th Alabama Infantry was mustered into Confederate States service at Richmond, 17 July, 1861 and at once moved to the Potomac 'front'.
On 25 July 1861, the Army of the Potomac was reorganised and the 12th Alabama Infantry was assigned to the Second Brigade, First Corps, Army of the Potomac, under the command of Brigadier General R S Ewell.
